Vanguard Banner and Dance
Vanguard: The troops that move at the front of the army.
Scriptural Basis for Banners/Flags & Dance and Their Purposes
Historically, in the Bible, we find that the worshippers were sent out ahead of the army with the Ark of the Covenant. In 2 Chronicles 20:17-22, it describes how the Lord said that the battle was His and that they did not have to fight. The presence of the Lord went ahead of the army. Verses 21-22 state, "And when he (Jehoshaphat) had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth forever. And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.
- Inspiration to the church symbolically identifying a common cause;
Declare Allegiance
Banners show who you identify with, who your family is.
(Numbers 1:52, Numbers 2:2) Banners draw people for a common action, a visual catalyst for involvement. (Isaiah 11:10-12, Isaiah 49:22, John 12:32, Zechariah 9:9-16 KJV)
- Usher in and demonstrate the presence of God;
Bestow Honor
Prepare the way, our savior comes..(Isaiah 62:10-12)
".. His banner over me is love." (Song of Songs 2:4)
Lift Him up and He fights the battle for us. (2 Chronicles 20:17-22)
He is our banner. (Isaiah 30:32, Exodus 17:8-15)
- Signals and attracts attention;
Communication; Herald an Event
When the Lord lifts up a sign, all creation takes notice!
A banner is a visible and prominent object - it brings things into focus and is a message of hope. (Song of Songs 6:4, Isaiah 11:10-12, Touch Point of Faith: Numbers 21:6-9, John 12:32, Exodus 17:8-15)
PROPHETIC: What is God saying? Sound the trumpet in Zion, the King is coming!
Isaiah 18:3
- A Call To War, Call The Troops To Battle
Banners and the trumpet call the armies together, unifies, encourages soldiers to come into unity with the other soldiers under one standard. The banner becomes a point of focus and object of hope. (Jeremiah 4:5-6, Jeremiah 51:12 & 27, Isaiah 13:2-3, Exodus 17:8-15)
- Puts The Enemy To Flight
Banners flying through the air sear and disrupt Satan's 'air space'. The enemy must flee because it is the Spirit of the Lord who lifts up the standard against them.
(Isaiah 31:9, Isaiah 59:19 KJV)
- Shows Victories Won
"But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
1 Corinthians 15:57
Banners are set up like a trophy in His Name. (Psalms 20:5, Jeremiah 50:2,
Song of Songs 6:4 & 10, Psalms 60:4, Isaiah 30:32 KJV, 1 Samuel 18:6)
- Staking a Claim of Territory
(Genesis 13:14-18, Joshua 8:1, Deuteronomy 2:24, 10:11)
Stake your heart for His possession. He is changing us from glory to glory. Our statement should be, "Let it be 1st in me then in others."
The scriptures provided are not an exhaustive study and there is always more to learn about banners. Please keep in mind that there are many variations when it comes to using banners. We do not to claim that the methods, scriptures, and colors are "be all" and "end all" of banners.
Banners, flags, tabrets and others are only tools. They are not meant to replace your current methods of worship nor are they better than other methods. They are only another way to express yourself and focus our worship to the moving of the Holy Spirit. In a way, the prophetic fulfillment of Jeremiah 31:4, "Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shall go forth in the dances of them that make merry."
